Formation's goal
Career opportunities
The recognition and valorization of architectural and urban heritage has become essential in Algeria through new laws and recent awareness of heritage loss on the one hand and the gap experienced by architectural production from cultural identity references of the other. The Master's degree "Rehabilitation of architectural heritage and old buildings" aims to train students in the reality of project management and project management of old building rehabilitation projects recently launched across the national territory. following the emergency noted by the state of the importance of the housing stock dating from the Ottoman and colonial period and its management. This is based on the observation that it is now essential to offer training for qualified architects in the rehabilitation and reconversion of old buildings while revitalizing historic centers and cities, while respecting heritage values and in the continuity of these same values, in adequacy with current issues linked to sustainability, preservation and respect for the environment.
- The training drawing on Master's in architecture and architect training from the classical system is presented in two stages:
The first year is a pre-specialization and a progressive orientation, devoted to basic lessons in the field of built architectural heritage and rehabilitation through the anchoring of notions and legislation governing architectural heritage and ancient national buildings, deepening theoretical knowledge and the acquisition of the bases of intervention in the field of heritage and rehabilitation.
The second year is devoted to the specialization itself, allowing the student to deepen their knowledge and develop their skills by adapting to the demands of the socio-economic world. The master's degree "rehabilitation of architectural heritage and old buildings" focuses on the techniques and methods relating to the management of rehabilitation projects initiated jointly by the housing and cultural sectors through end-of-year projects. 'study. Secondly, it allows the student to learn about scientific research through the writing of their end-of-study report.
At the end of the course, the student will have:
- acquired the professional skills for the mastery of architectural work in the context of the rehabilitation, renewal and sustainability of architectural heritage and old buildings.
- Developed and deepened the theoretical bases relating to the production of knowledge around the process of rehabilitation of old heritage real estate, its heritage and its management.
- Treatise on the principles and techniques of intervention and management relating to the preservation and rehabilitation of architectural heritage and more particularly old buildings while assuming their relationship to sustainable development.
Geographic employability potential:
Employability is as regional (center of the country) as it is national since it is the first professional Master's degree relating to the field of architecture in the central region of the country. The central wilayas: Algiers, Boumerdès, Blida, Chlef, Médéa, Djelfa, Laghouat, Tizi Ouzou, Ghardaïa, Bouira, Tipaza, etc. contain a considerable heritage capital in habitat from the pre-colonial and colonial period. The latter is in a relatively degraded health state, deserving urgent rehabilitation operations, some of which are already underway (Algiers, the lower casbah, Ghardaïa, Médéa, Laghouat, etc.). These operations launched jointly by the housing and cultural sectors and by local authorities require the establishment of training for architects initiated in the studies and monitoring of rehabilitation projects.
The training targets employability in two sectors, public and private:
1- The public sector:
It concerns all institutions under the ministries of culture and housing,
know :
– The central services of the Ministry of Housing.
– The central services of the Ministry of Culture, heritage conservation department
– Departments of public facilities and housing

– National agency for protected areas and its subdivisions
– The cultivation directorates installed in different wilayas of Algeria.

(OGEBC). Alger.

2- Private sector:
