INSTITUTE OF AERONAUTICS AND SPACE STUDIES

Master in Air Traffic Management CNS/ATM

Formation's goal

Career opportunities

The process of managing the flight of an aircraft in a safe and efficient manner
requires an air traffic system, based on three functions: Communication,
Navigation and Surveillance.
In the early eighties, ICAO set up a commission called
FANS (future air navigation systems), in order to study the existing infrastructure,
proposals, to anticipate the growing evolution of air traffic, to implement
implement a new concept and new technologies and make
recommendations with the aim of coordinating the evolution of the development of the
Air Navigation. The conclusion of this commission was:
Limitation of direct spread, difficulty for different reasons
(topography, etc.) implementation of CNS means, limitation of communication
per channel as well as the gap observed in Air–Ground communications, which are the
automated system base support. The commission concluded that the limits of the
current systems are intrinsic and that the problem can only be solved by
a new CNS system or the exploitation of satellite technology and the
data transmission (DATA LINK) are the only solution. The three functions
(Communication, Navigation and Surveillance) will be increasingly dependent.
ICAO calls this system CNS/ATM. So far, the community of
civil aeronautics does not have, at the national or international level, training
structured to accompany the technical evolutions of the systems of
CNS.
This Master trains in the various satellite technologies applicable to
Communications, Navigation and Surveillance (CNS) issues. They are
examined from an air traffic management perspective. The Department
of aeronautics integrates all the skills of the field making it possible to propose
a summary of the subject.

Under the impetus of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), improvements are being sought in the management of global air traffic. In particular, it is a question of substituting a global and coherent system for numerous non-homogeneous national systems. The new space technologies of telecommunications obviously constitute a privileged way of progress with regard to the sought-after improvements. Currently, the national air navigation company (ENNA) is about to acquire new CNS equipment, for better integration of the CNS/ATM system locally and thus be in compliance with ICAO norms and standards. The CNS/ATM concept is global, its aim is to standardize the levels of safety, availability, precision, reliability and integrity at the local, regional and global scale. If there is an improvement in equipment
ground, this implies that it will be the same for on-board equipment. This training is a very important windfall for Algerian companies.
Recently the National Office of Meteorology and in its recruitment strategy for the next three years, for an employability perspective in order to remedy the massive retirements. Future candidates for this training must be, among other things, CNS/ATM Masters who have dealt with the topics of Meteorological Radar.
At the end of this training, the student will have an excellent command of new technologies of communication, surveillance and navigation, which will allow him to integrate easily into a professional activity; Thus the possibility of continuing academic research in doctorate. Agreements have been signed with the following companies:
-The national company AIR ALGERIA,
-Tassili Airlines,
-VERITAL (national aeronautical inspection body),
-Direction of Civil Aviation and Meteorology (DACM)
- Air Force Command,
-The National Office of Meteorology.
