Capacity building projects in higher education promote modernization, accessibility and internationalization of higher education in partner countries. These projects build on the success of the Alfa, Edu-link and Tempus programmes. Projects aim to foster cooperation between the EU and Partner Countries and to help eligible Partner Countries to address challenges related to the management and governance of their higher education institutions. This involves improving the quality of higher education, developing new and innovative education programs, modernizing higher education systems through reform policies, as well as fostering cooperation between different regions of the world through through joint initiatives.

There are two types of capacity building projects. Joint projects: they must allow organizations to improve programs, governance and consolidate relations between higher education systems. Structural projects: these aim to promote reforms of higher education systems, modernize policies, governance, and strengthen the relationship between higher education systems and the broader economic and social environment. Capacity building projects can be: national projects involving institutions from a single eligible partner country multi-country projects covering at least two countries of that region within a single region multi-country projects covering several regions and at least one countries of each region concerned Online guide relating to the international dimension of Erasmus+. The Table of Projects gives the following details on the projects funded under this action: project number, type of project, title, list of beneficiaries with their respective PIC, participating countries, names and emails of contact persons, the allocated budget as well as the summary of the project as it appears in the application.
