Center for Information and Communication Systems and Networks, Distance Learning, and E-Learning
Halls
As part of the program to support the development of information and communication technologies (ICT), the Algerian Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research has launched an ambitious distance learning project.
This project aims to connect various Algerian universities into a single network. By integrating information and communication technologies, it primarily seeks to address the problem of the steadily increasing number of students relative to the number of available academic seats.
This project also enables organizations to:
- Expanding the scope of education beyond the classroom and making it accessible to a theoretically unlimited number of learners who can connect from anywhere and at any time.
- To promote education on a wide scale in accordance with standards of pedagogical and scientific excellence.
- Bringing about a radical change in the cost equation of education, since an increase in the number of students will not lead to a proportional increase in the number of teachers, infrastructure, or facilities, nor in the capacity for housing, feeding, or transporting students.
A distance learning unit was established at each institution participating in the project.
The 59 higher education institutions (universities, university centers, and institutes) were divided into two groups based on the type of videoconferencing equipment available to them.
The Center for Research in Scientific and Technical Information (CERIST) serves as the main hub.
The first group, called the “Transmitter/Receiver Hub,” consists of 13 sites:
(CERIST, CDTA, USTHB, University of Algiers, University of Blida, University of Bejaia, University of Setif, University of Batna, University of Constantine, University of Annaba, University of Tlemcen, ES SENIA, University of Ouargla).
The second group, the Receiving Pole, consists of 46 sites.
The Center for Media, Communication, and Distance Education Systems and Networks (formerly the Computing Center) provides students with a well-equipped computer lab to enable graduating students to prepare their theses, projects, and other assignments.
Lab supervisors are on hand to provide technical and organizational assistance, including:
- Maintaining computer equipment.
- Updating workstations (antivirus software).
This lab operates according to a specific schedule posted at the center, which includes the time and the student’s first and last name. The lab also remains open during holidays.
This media lab aims to enable students to acquire fundamental knowledge in the field of digital media.
As for students who have no background in this field, the goal is to provide them with the necessary tools that serve as a “survival kit in an information-driven environment.”
For students with prior experience, this course aims to reinforce their existing knowledge and enable them to go beyond their practical experience.
It also provides the following services:
- IT maintenance and troubleshooting to help you deal with various issues (malfunctions, viruses, hard drives, etc.) you may encounter with your computers.
- Introductory courses and training in computer science to enable you to better manage your devices and software.
Intranet Networks
The university network is constantly evolving, reflecting the administration’s commitment to establishing an intranet that covers the entire University of Blida.
The intranet was created to provide faculties and educational and research institutions with an infrastructure that is robust, dynamic, and secure.
The intranet has also made it possible to utilize high-speed Internet for pedagogical and administrative purposes, benefiting students, researchers, and faculty members.
The Center for Information and Communication Systems, Networks, and Distance Education serves as the central hub connecting the various departments within Saad Dahleb University in Blida.
