The University Center of Blida was established on June 20, 1977 (by Decree No. 77-92) and opened its doors to students four years later, on September 8, 1981, with an initial enrollment of 526 students and 57 professors, including 17 foreign professors. In August 1989, the University Center of Blida was transformed into a university by Executive Decree No. 89-137, dated August 1, 1989.
The cooperative training system at Blida 1 University constitutes a training method of great value, which aims to gradually integrate university students into the labor market, which is witnessing a continuous increase in its requirements.
Approximately 5000 cooperative training programs are completed annually with about 1,000 institutions and organizations from various sectors.
History of the City of Roses
Blida, the capital of the province, is located 50 km southwest of Algiers, on the southern edge of the Mitidja Plain, and 22 km from the sea. It is distinguished by its location at the point where the mountains meet the plain. The Sidi El Kebir Valley depositional cone places it at an elevation of approximately 270 meters. The municipality of Blida covers an area of 7208 hectares.
The original natural site is characterized by four distinct areas: the first two areas represent the entirety of the mountain slopes, bordered to the south by the mountain and meeting at the level of the Sidi El Kebir Valley. The western part is bordered to the north by the Sidi El Kebir Valley, which is fed by several tributaries and streams.
