Partnership project in the field of improving reproductive performance in camels

Prof. Mohamed Bezzina, Rector of the University of Blida1, accompanied by the Director of the Institute of Veterinary Sciences, Prof. Réda Belala, and teachers from the institute, paid a working visit to the High Commission for the Development of the Steppe in the wilaya of Djelfa and to the National Interprofessional Council of the Camel Industry in the wilaya of Ghardaïa, as part of the scientific research and partnership project with the University of Blida1, entitled “Improving the reproductive performance of camels”

The delegation of the University of Blida1, accompanied by the High Commissioner for the Development of the Steppes and the technical team of zootechnics, visited the commune of Zaafrane and other localities of the wilaya of Djelfa, meeting with dromedary breeders to present the objectives of the project of improvement of breeds and modernization of breeding. This visit was marked by the discovery of a rare and unique breed of dromedary existing in Algeria.

In the wilaya of Laghouat, a working session was organized at the headquarters of the agricultural services directorate, during which a presentation of this project was made. The team then explored
several sites housing dromedary herds with the aim of assessing the current situation of dromedary reproduction in the region, including environmental conditions, breeding patterns
breeding and feeding, to examine new methods for improving productivity and breed quality, to raise awareness among breeders on the importance of breed improvement and how to apply modern technologies in their farms to increase efficiency and to support local development through exploring ways of strengthening cooperation between the university, the commissionerate and local breeders to ensure the viability and sustainability of the project and improve producers' incomes.
