Institute of Architecture: Field visit to the M'zab Valley
In collaboration with the Office for the Protection and Promotion of the M'zab Valley, a delegation composed of teachers and doctoral students from the Institute of Architecture and Urban Planning, students and experts from the University of Florence, Italy, and experts from the
Italian National Research Center, led by Ms. Mahindad, Director of the Institute, carried out a field visit from November 19 to 23, 2024 to the M'zab Valley, within the framework of a cooperation agreement concluded between the University of Blida1 and the University of Florence, Italy.
During this visit, explanations were presented by representatives of the Office for the Protection and Promotion of the M'zab Valley on the construction materials and techniques used in construction.
Recommendations were made at the end of this visit, including the use of local materials in construction such as gypsum and lime in renovation and restoration work as well as stopping the use of cement with a view to preserving architectural heritage.
