Microbiology is a broad discipline including many specialties, which has both a fundamental and an applied orientation. Medical microbiology is inseparable from the studies of general microbiology and molecular biology. This specialty intends to train students in the current challenges of medical microbiology both in fundamental fields (host-pathogen interactions, physiopathology, strategies they develop, diagnostic approaches) and applied (new molecular biology diagnostic tools) . The objective of the specialty is to train students who have acquired fundamental knowledge in the various fields of medical microbiology with a strong component of genetics and molecular biology. The main orientations of the teaching program are: human and animal pathogenic microorganisms, their pathogenesis, their diagnosis and their resistance to antimicrobials.

The specialty of Microbiology in the biomedical sector responds to a need expressed by both students and the sectors concerned. The most buoyant sectors concern the hospital environment, community medicine, veterinary medicine and environmental protection.
