Head of Department of Water and Environmental Sciences

The Department of Water and Environmental Sciences is an offshoot of the former sector of Agricultural Engineering. It was created by Ministerial Decree No. 51 of June 17, 2006, it reflects on the one hand the adaptation of the training to the evolution of the organization chart of the University of Blida 1 and the importance taken by the problem of Water and Environment on the other hand. In the new context of water resources, the SEE department wants to be an instrument of training and research with a view to knowledge, diagnosis of the states of the resource, its rehabilitation, the development of forms of its governance and its preservation. in an approach that takes into account its interdependence with environmental issues.

Based on an academic license (Hydraulic) and a Masters (Hydraulic Resources), training in the department revolves around the activities of a research laboratory (Preservation and Protection of Water Resources) to which the teachers belong (14 in number including 3 Professors, 3 Lecturers of rank A, 6 Lecturers B and 2 assistant professors of rank A) in the diversity of their training profiles. This characteristic of versatility allows the apprehension of the resource in its dimensions of protection, quantification, exploitation, management and preservation, purification, treatment, reuse and development of its catchments and their electromechanical equipment.

The department's originality also lies in the content of its programs, which cover all modes of water deposits (surface, underground and dam reservoirs) in different climatic contexts. Arid zones and wetlands, due to their importance in Algeria and their impacts on the renewal of resources and biodiversity are integrated as areas of approach and analysis.

The training provided in the two cycles (bachelor and master) combines theoretical teaching with field observations through internships and outings integrated into the programs. By this choice, it aims to put the department's applicants in a real and objective situation.

Finally, with more resources and more educational equipment, the department could take up the national challenge; that of a real management of the water issue. He hopes to be considered up to the stakes in this matter.
