University of Blida 1 hosted a study day on the citrus sector for the year 2026 today, Tuesday, February 3, 2026, at the Grand Conference Hall. This event is part of ongoing efforts to develop this strategic branch and enhance its contribution to the national agricultural economy.
The event was organized by the Chamber of Agriculture of Blida Province, in coordination with the Directorate of Agricultural Services, under the theme: “Digitalization: Standardizing Citrus Production and Enhancing Exports.” The gathering saw the participation of farmers, investors, researchers, and experts, alongside representatives from relevant institutions and bodies.
In his opening speech, the Rector of the University, Professor Mohamed Bezzina, emphasized that organizing this study day reflects the university’s pivotal role as a key partner in local development. He highlighted the importance of bridging the gap between scientific research and field application, supporting the agricultural sector with innovation and knowledge.
The program featured specialized scientific and technical presentations focusing on the use of digitalization, satellite technology, and Geographic Information Systems (GIS) in agriculture. Additionally, topics included smart irrigation techniques to combat climate change and modern marketing mechanisms designed to meet international market standards.
The meeting also served as a platform for exchanging expertise among various stakeholders in the citrus sector, fostering a constructive debate on ways to improve quality, increase yields, and boost export opportunities.
