Establishment

The Institute of Aeronautics and Space Studies has more than 30 years of existence.
The Institute was established in 1986, following Decree No. 86-238 of 16 September 1986 and the creation of an ad hoc commission bringing together the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, the Ministry of National Defense, and the Ministry of Transport. At that time, the Institute held the status of an INES (National Institute of Higher Education) and was known as the IAB, until the establishment of the University of Blida in 1989, when it became a department within the Faculty of Engineering Sciences. The department was later elevated to the status of the Institute of Aeronautics and Space Studies by Executive Decree No. 13-163 of 15 April 2013.

Since its establishment in 1986, the Institute has served as a training center for highly qualified human resources in the fields of aeronautical maintenance and operations in Algeria. Over the years, the engineers and technicians trained—both civilian and military—have worked in various organizations related to aeronautics and air transport in Algeria and abroad.

Since acquiring its new status as an institute within the university, the Institute of Aeronautics and Space Studies is currently structured into three departments: the Department of Aircraft Construction, the Department of Air Navigation, and the Department of Space Studies. The Institute has undergone significant development in the field of academic training and has become highly attractive to students, who are admitted with very high academic achievement and excellence in the Baccalaureate examination.

LMD Training

Our University is among the first universities in Algeria to have adopted the new LMD system (Bachelor–Master–Doctorate).
The Institute of Aeronautics and Space Studies was the first at Saad Dahlab University to align with this new LMD education system. Since 2004, the year of the implementation of the LMD system, applied and academic bachelor’s degrees have been established in order to adapt the training provided by the Institute to the needs of the labor market.

The Institute of Aeronautics and Space Studies (IAES) is a higher education institution specialized in the fields of aeronautics and space. With more than thirty years of experience, the Institute plays a strategic role in education, scientific research, and technological development related to the aeronautical and space sectors in Algeria.

Established in 1986, IAES’s main mission is to train highly qualified engineers, professionals, and researchers capable of meeting current and future technological challenges. The Institute relies on a modern academic offering in accordance with the Bachelor–Master–Doctorate (LMD) system, and adapted to the needs of the national and international labor market.

Academic Organization

The Institute is currently structured into three academic departments:

  • Department of Aircraft Construction, focusing on aeronautical design, structures, and materials;

  • Department of Air Navigation, specializing in navigation, air traffic control, air transport operations, and air traffic safety;

  • Department of Space Studies, dedicated to space sciences and technologies, satellite systems, and related research.

Education and Research

IAES offers strong theoretical training complemented by practical work, supervised projects, internships, and applied research activities. The Institute benefits from modern educational infrastructure, specialized laboratories, and academic supervision provided by recognized faculty members and experts.

Scientific research is a major pillar of the Institute’s development, carried out through research projects, national and international partnerships, as well as the organization of conferences, seminars, and scientific events.

Partnerships and Professional Integration

The Institute maintains close cooperation with stakeholders in the aeronautical and space sectors, industrial companies, public organizations, and research institutions. These partnerships provide students with internship opportunities, collaborative projects, and enhanced professional integration, both in Algeria and abroad.

Vision and Values

IAES is distinguished by its commitment to academic excellence, innovation, creativity, and teamwork. It aims to train a generation of competent professionals capable of actively contributing to the country’s scientific and technological development.
