Today, on Monday, February 02, 2026, the University of Blida 1, represented by the Faculty of Natural and Life Sciences, Department of Biology, and the Research Laboratory in Biotechnology, Environment and Health, organized the first edition of the scientific workshop on medicinal and aromatic plants under the title: “From Traditional Use to Innovation”.
This scientific event formed a unique academic space that brought together professors, researchers, students and professionals interested in the field of medicinal and aromatic plants, where ways to value traditional knowledge and link it to modern scientific approaches based on research and innovation were highlighted.
The workshop aimed to highlight the scientific and economic value of medicinal and aromatic plants, and to open new horizons for their uses in the pharmaceutical, cosmetic and food fields, in addition to encouraging students and project holders to move towards innovation and entrepreneurship in this promising sector.
The event also featured rich scientific discussions and specialized presentations that highlighted the importance of applied research and knowledge transfer from the university to its economic and social environment, in line with the university’s orientations in supporting innovation and serving sustainable development.
The event was opened, on behalf of the University Director, by the Dean of the College, Dr. Nabi Mustafa, who welcomed the distinguished guests and stressed that the College administration attaches great importance to supporting scientific research, promoting innovation, and encouraging quality scientific initiatives.
For her part, the workshop coordinator, Professor Sharif Saida Hamida, emphasized the important role that such scientific events play in promoting research in the field of medicinal and aromatic plants and creating bridges of communication between researchers, students and professionals.
On the same occasion, the event featured two practical workshops for students on the traditional extraction and preparation of medicinal and aromatic plants, and another on the development of innovative formulations and products, which allowed linking theoretical knowledge with practical application and witnessed great interaction from the participants.
Through these initiatives, the University of Blida 1 affirms its commitment to promoting scientific research and encouraging projects with a direct impact on society and the national economy.
